Due the recent developments in Great Britain our class has worked on an explaining overview of the situation over there. Five groups have gathered information from various German newspapers like “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, “Rhein Neckar Zeitung” and the popular magazine “Spiegel”. Having summed up their articles the students presented them in form of a mediation on a white board. The project is addressed to the 10th and 11th grade. However, the board standing in the hallway is visible for everybody. To ensure a variety of sources the film “Die Entscheidung” has also been considered.

All in all, the mood in all newspapers and in the film was rather negative. Some mentioned the financial losses for the countries but also for the individuals. Especially universities like Oxford and Cambridge fear a decrease of interested students from the EU. The young generation complains about fewer opportunities for their future.
In general, the Brexit has split the United Kingdom, which causes fear and the feeling of insecurity. London even considered itself as an isolated island in between Brexit supporters. Moreover, Great Britain is reproached for fleeing from global issues like the refugee crisis and for disregarding their responsibility.

To put it in a nutshell, our researches show that the Brexit is only supported in some parts of the United Kingdom (and by Donald Trump), but all around it people rather fear the consequences.
